    The Quality Agency has finalised a report following an infection control survey conducted on residential aged care services in late 2017.

    The Report on the review of infection control practices in residential aged care services analyses results from the Quality Agency’s national survey on infection control practices and immunisation rates in residential aged care services, which was conducted on services around Australia from October 2017 to January 2018.     Findings include:

    • 97% of residential aged care services have an infection control policy and vaccination program in place for staff and residents.
    • Staff uptake of vaccinations was higher at services which provided access to the influenza vaccination than at services which encouraged staff to attend an external provider (for example, a GP).
    • A documented infection control plan and register of staff vaccine receipts were associated with improved vaccination rates amongst care recipients, and staff.
