Be ‘future ready’: 2018 Better Practice for the Future National Conference

The Quality Agency has developed a packed 2018 Better Practice Conference program, running in Sydney from 22-24 August, to help prepare the aged care sector for new reforms including more consumer-focused care and the transition to new Aged Care Quality Standards.

You’re  invited to review the program highlights, including a full speaker list, and register for ‘early bird’ places by 13 July through our Better Practice Conference website

Network at our national conference

The national conference provides major networking opportunities, as aged care staff, managers, subject experts, advocates and others in the sector join discussions, workshops and presentations on the issues that matter in aged care.

This year’s theme ‘Living the life I choose – Safety, health and wellbeing’ will explore how we meaningfully engage and partner with consumers in shaping the future of aged care. The theme is closely aligned with the new Aged Care Quality Standards which increase the focus on quality outcomes for consumers, encouraging providers to think about how they engage with consumers to partner, co-design and target services that meet consumers’ needs and expectations

Enjoy inspiring keynote speakers

Conference MC, Natasha Mitchell from ABC Radio, will introduce a great lineup of keynote speakers.  You’ll  hear inspiring talks from: American author, entrepreneur and physician Dr Bill Thomas; the National Health and Medical Research Council - Cognitive Decline Partnership Centre Director, Professor Susan Kurrle; UK-based leading researcher Lisa Trigg; the Aged Care Complaints Commissioner Rae Lamb; the CEO of Older Persons Advocacy Network Lewis Kaplan; the Department of Health’s Amy Laffan; and our own CEO, Nick Ryan.

Day one will conclude with the Better Practice Awards dinner where winners will be announced.

Day two will see the Minister for Aged Care the Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP recognise this year’s Better Practice Innovation and Excellence Award winners.

Participate and engage

Acquire knowledge, skills and share information with the sector as we embark on the Conference ‘quality journey’.

  • Day one will explore the quality journey and how aged care services have partnered with consumers to meet their needs and preferences.
  • Day two will focus on the quality journey through the new Aged Care Quality Standards and regulatory framework as a platform for service innovation. We will explore innovative models that promote consumers' independence, function and enjoyment.

In a special pre-conference workshop hosted by Aged Care Complaints Commissioner Rae Lamb, you will work through the complexities of complaints handling, learn new tips, network with industry colleagues, and share ideas with the Commissioner.
