    Overview

    The Quality Agency and Home Care Today have received overwhelming feedback from industry wanting more information and education on Consumer Directed Care (CDC) and how it supports performance against the Home Care Standards.

    So the Quality Agency and Home Care Today have teamed up to develop and deliver a national roadshow of one-day practical forums on Consumer Directed Care and the Home Care Standards - Where can it take you?

    The forums will look at consumer directed care in the context of the Home Care Standards and help you envisage systems and processes that facilitate innovative and quality focused consumer directed care. Together, we will explore good practice and provide you with a range of tools and resources to support your service and consumers. The forum will help you develop your own action plan for innovation and continuous improvement to foster consumer quality of life, wellness and reablement.

    The forum will focus on five closely related themes:

    • Understanding and applying the philosophy and practices of quality focused CDC
    • Exploring and unpacking how CDC is embedded into the Home Care Standards 
    • Demonstrating performance against the Home Care Standards in relation to CDC 
    • Exploring the opportunities and challenges in developing good practice CDC 
    • Developing an action plan and using available tools and resources to support your staff and consumers.


    Consisting of presentations, group and small discussions and activities, the forum will get you thinking, talking, and connecting.

    Learning outcomes

    Participants will be required to complete a pre-forum task before attending the forum. You will receive this task in an email following your registration confirmation.

    After active participation in this forum, you will be able to:

    • explain the philosophy, principles and practices of consumer directed care in the context of the Home Care Standards.
    • design systems and processes to enable and support innovative and quality focused consumer directed care and support performance against the Home Care Standards. 
    • define the elements that demonstrate and contribute to good practice consumer directed care and care recipient outcomes. 
    • access and implement a range of tools and resources to support staff, consumers and representatives. 
    • develop an action plan to support innovation and continuous improvement. 
    • supporting quality of life, wellness and reablement.  

    Target Audience

    This forum is designed specifically for Home Care Package providers, managers and staff who have overall responsibility or have a direct involvement in negotiating Home Care Agreements and care plans with consumers for whom their service is providing care and services.

    This program is not designed to address specific issues regarding CDC in the context of Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) as many of these issues will not be clear until 2017. The content of the session will assist but it may meet all your needs or answers all your questions.

    The content of this program could also be relevant for other organisations or consultants who support or undertaken assessments/audits of home care services.

    Organisation - direct training

    This forum is also offered as an organisation-direct training opportunity for up to 20 participants. We will come to you and deliver the workshop to up to 20 participants in your workplace. Participants can be from your organisation or you can combine with other aged care providers in your area to save time and share resources.

    The cost is $5,000 (includes GST) for up to 20 participants. Arrange an organisation-direct workshop at your workplace.
